Somehow this fabulous yak-thing dropped into my mailbox a couple of weeks ago and seemed to be perfect for a textured shawl.

It's already soft as cashmere. Already, before washing. And knowing these yarns only get softer and more blooming after a bath my expectations are high as a kite.

I brought home two giant bulbs from Amsterdam last october and forgot them until mid-november. I finally got them into soil on the very same day as one of my favourite danish bloggers. I've so much enjoyed the photos of her flowers' development, especially this one. And finally here are mine! And were they worth waiting for! One of them even has 3 buds rising, and from each bud there came 6 flowers! 18 flowers from one single bulb!

I think this is going to be a good year.

My heart goes out to Iceland

They really have a hard time up there. I know there are a lot of ordinary people suffering because of doings and decisions they had no part in. I hope someone, somehow will be able to solve this.

Buying icelandic goods might be a good idea - but I cannot imagine the amount of wool it would take to make a difference. I guess this doesn't help much:

For outdoor garments this is the best wool in the world. I have a boy who used to love his icelander. Now he is finally getting a new one!

And having a dad approaching a big birthday gives me another excuse to buy yarn, which I am not supposed to. Screams my overfilled yarn cabinet. But it's icelandic, and it's for dad. I scream back.

Little things II

It's fall. In fact, right now it's so much fall here that it possibly gets. There are brown, yellow, ochre and red leaves flying around. It rains sideways, sometimes even from below! (? - Up until now I've only heard about one place where it rains from below - but believe me - today we had rain from below here!)

Outside our kitchen there is a big bamboo. If a plant can be a pet, this one is. I love it so much. For one - it looks wonderful and has even put on some flecks of yellow to praise the fall. But most of all I love it for the sounds it makes. The swishing sound when the wind flows through it's leaves, and the little tap against the window when some of the branches do a windy dance.

I think I will do a lot of knitting in the kitchen this fall and winter. While listening.

I made another little thing for my neck. I wanted a black scarf - not too woolly - but yet a little warm. Something drapey and fringey.

I have recently discovered the joy of making little things. They actually get finished. Within days or even within hours. Like this one:

details:

pattern: morningside cowl by Jared Flood.

yarn: DROPS angora-tweed, dark grey (discontinued) 1 skein.

needles. 5,5 mm 60 cm circular.

result: wonderful process, versatile product and an urge to make another one (or three..) which brings me to some frogging business:

An old - neverfinished scarf may very well turn out to become a present for a dear friend. We'll see...

....are mostly here again and I feel it's not a bad time to pick up a little blogging again! Thank you so much for very kind and thoughtful comments, - I know it sounds like a clich� - but I mean this from the bottom of my heart; - such comments mean a lot to me! Things have worked out wonderfully so far and I am very optimistic.

I have been knitting! And I have FOs to show! Last thing first, I finally finished Flicca. Really, ends weaved in, sleeves seemed and buttons on. I even have proof:

details:

pattern: Flicca

needles: 6,5 circulars.

yarn: 2 strands of DUO merino (charcoal) 6,5 skeins,and 1 strand of Jaggerspun Zephyr (steel).

modifications: I cast on as for the largest size - my gauge was way smaller - and knit body in one piece back and forth. Then I knit the sleeves up to the armpits, joined all 3 pieces and knit yoke back and forth with raglan decreases. I did no neck shaping and knit a straight collar in 1x1 rib and finally a seed st. lining as also down the fronts.

result: considering the size of this thing it is a light (approx. 700 g), bouncy, warm and comfy coat and it fits perfectly, (which is more the result of luck than accurate calculation!) Me happy!

bonus: a lot of extra space in my ongoing-projects' basket and hence room for many new little and bigger things!

It's actually true. Big sensation. Today's post in fiberspace is about something as rare as a finished object! My feet are happy and warm.

details:

pattern: diagonal cross-rib socks from favourite socks

yarn: trekking xxl tweed

needles: 2,5 mm dpns

I really feel great having knitted socks back in my life and started this pair for younger girl:

Merino lace socks, seems to fit her perfectly knitted with Lorna's laces solid shepherd sock colorway manzanita.

In the non-sock departement there is a little friend of mine to whom I promised something knitted, and this is what the yarn and needles came up with:

A little bit of sleeve left to knit and a "little" bit (gaaaahhhg!!) of weaving in ends, and a few buttons and hopefully it fits!

And until next, watch out for big hairy mouths...

or burning candles..

or whatever..!

Autumn in spring

I'm hoping for spring every day now. But I can live with autumn colors, too..

Autumn rose is slowly growing:

This project is pure magic and pure joy! The warm, heathered colors of this yarn are unbelievable. I am not a blue person, I hardly ever wear blue. But the blue in this sweater is the prettiest ever. Some day someone needs to make something out of this blue. A shawl for instance...

The big, the small and the skirt

How about straightening out some of my projects and get some pictures...

My big one - Flicca - knits up with 2 strands of Design club DK DUO and 1 strand of Jaggerspun zephyr and I really like the air, drape and texture of the fabric they make up together:

The tension is a bit tighter than stated in the pattern so I am knitting a larger size than I normally would - hoping it somehow will fit. If not I can always use another blanket...

I am making the body in one piece and plan on a raglan yoke instead of set-in sleeves. Which really makes this big cardigan very much similar to the much smaller and lighter Ofelia:
