FO no. 8, 2006, zik-zak socks

Camera retrieved, socks done. Yes of course they should've been a long time ago. After all they were for my mom's birthday which was back in april - but anyway and anyhow - time flies too fast for me and here they are:

(Oh yes, I'm taking the liberty of modelling them myself. After all  - it shouldn't matter - I have my mom's long and funny feet anyway, haha!):

PacMan heel and all:

details:

yarn: opal hagebutte- about 60 - 70 g

needles: 2,5 mm set of 5 dpns

pattern source: das geniale sockenbuch!

So.

I was not going to knit more socks this summer. But what is this:

Dunno. They just crawled up on my needles. Cotton, online, feels fabulous btw.

And the print of the wave stole is slowly getting longer:

And did I mention that summer arrived?!:

Yes, it certainly did! Let's see.. - about 6 or 8 hours ago! Wooooohoooo!!!

Now where did I put that camera??

Yes. Believe it or not. Knitting going on however. Back soon.

Ok. Fine. I give in.

I was so absolutely sure that this next entry was going to be a FO entry - I am sooo close - to finish not only one but TWO projects!! In the meantime I risk my reputation (do I have a reputation?! )  - risk whatever - and continue on my path away from having a knitblog to having a yarnpervertshowoffblog. I might lose a reader or two along the road - but never mind. Or maybe knitters have a slight interest in yarn. Maybe?

Here is what I was up to. I took a trip on a sailing ship. Or a propellar plane.

Isn't it beautiful?! And look at the weather! The plane took the man and me to this fantastic city. It's called Copenhagen and shrunk a bit since my last visit:

It became a very short visit because I was kicked out. Yes really. I was kicked out of a miniature city. Hello?? Is there anyone else out there who got themselves kicked out of a miniature city?? No? Yes. I thought so. The reason was that I toatally lost it and actually stepped. On the lawn. Yes I know it's unforgiveable. But maybe understandable. Because the reason was I really needed a shot of this. Thing:

What on earth is this??! Oh no!!! See? There was actually some hanging going on! I can assure you that I got my butt off that lawn quicker than I cast on for a new project and never turned back. Scary place!

So I was just too happy when I found this safe hideaway:

and this and this and this (the last one even had a 50 % sale on everything)!

Then of course there was no way I could resist these:

50 % merino, 25 % angora, 25 % cashmere, hats, scarves for my girls, maybe?

and a little of this:

which are Marianne Isager's viscolin and bomuldlin (rayon/linen and cotton/linen) destined for Bølger.

And on we go:

150 g/1500 m of rediculously cheap laceweight crisp wool - the whole three for only 30 DKR! ( 5$).

And this is the most fantastic light wool I've seen and touched in a long time:

350 m pr 50 g of faroese wool blended with a bit of Shetland and Australian wool. (I'm about to consider taking on sheep breeding..)

and of course I had to grab this:

Opal dreamcatcher - the blue is even more fantastic live.

And this, maybe to become the Ene shawl - sometime in the future:

Time to calm down. No more yarn for a while. I promise. Maybe a cup of coffee:

And some music:

This is the most genuinely dedicated fantastic songwriter I've heard in a long time. The consert at Vega was absolutely brilliant! His name is Josh Ritter. Go and listen to him. And not least see him smile! WOW!

And then sink into the green heaven with some art if you wish- and promise not to buy any more yarn in at least a week or a half..:

And I wasn't even kicked out from there!!

To knit or not to knit...

 - socks from cashmere yarn. That seems to be the question! My parents were visiting and even my father had his say-so in the discussion. He clearly stated that it was absolutely preposterous to even consider knitting socks from somethinng so soft and luxurious!! I was really impressed that he even had an opinion on the matter! Now, if I were still 16 I would of course right now be knitting socks very much indeed! Just because!! But sensible old me kept petting the magical bundle of fiber and I felt an ever increasing urge to wrap it around my neck! Also thinking about the considerable amount of fantastic sock yarn lying in the cupboard, I re-re-planned again. I even had a little discussion with Kris about the possibility of making a foot-neckwarmer combo-garment.....wooooo, tricky one!

So here is the very start of my very new - er.....socks:

A bit big, you think? Well, it's getting bigger:

Yes, I know - the shape is a bit odd for a sock. But hopefully it will become a "Triangles within triangles"! This skein has really got great yardage - it's as much as 500 meters which I think will make a perfect size!

I will knit the Conwy socks from last entry. Using "Lorna's Laces shepherd sock, colorway "Vera". I think. and I will knit the Traveler's socks using Silja sock yarn from Gjestal spinneri. I think. Yes, it's all in stash. I'm such a sensible knitter.

Oh, by the way - I am for sure going to knit me a pair of cashmere socks. So there.

It's been a beautiful day today. The flu seems finally to have left me for good (touch wood!!) and I have been able to indulge in an other colorful activity apart from knitting...gardening!:

View from my kitchen window, let's remember this when winter hits again!:

Green inside, green outside. We just planted a "Malus" tree, I believe it's called Malus Royal or Crabapple (?), in bloom right now:

It looks so good next to the japanese maples which we planted 4 years ago. They grow quite slowly but I find them incredibly beautiful:

And, oh, lavender:

and rosemary:

Is it really summer allready??!

Seriously reconsidering...

I had a plan in my head. I thought, "if I don't knit any socks during summer i might get to knit something else!" So the plan was to finish the opal hagebutte zik-zak socks for my mom, and then take a sock-break. The opal socks are now, by the way, only one foot and toe away from completion.

But what can you do, when this wonderful blogger goes to London and finds this wonderful yarn and sends it wrapped as the most wonderful gift along with some wonderful chocolate which only due to my still being a bit under the weather still lies wonderfully wrapped waiting for my full recovery...

I am now the very happy owner of 100 % cashmere sock yarn in a magically faded corally-dusty-rose-brownish shade, absolutely unbelievably beautiful and soft. I am very much in love:

I feel that this fantastic yarn definitely calls for some real vintage lace or textured look. I am thinking socks - even if it feels like a very forbidden pleasure to actually walk on cahsmere...Who knows where that will bring me - i'll probably end up with diamonds on the soles of my shoes....hihi!

I found two strong candidates in Nancy Bush's "Knitting on the road".

First: the "Conwy":

Then there are the "Traveler's stockings":

So what can I do? I think there is going to be some sock knitting after all, this summer. Thank you, thank you, thank you, sweet kris!!

Peeking my stuffed nose out again

I had a very bad flu. And I am not joking. I was in bed with a fever for one whole week and now I am bothered and bothering my surroundings with a very irritating couph and a nose only slightly suitable for breathing. Fortunately my nose is not essential for knitting and blogging so I think today's entry should be the start of regular posting again...

Thank you all for your kind wishes at my 1 year blogging anniversary! And I am so impressed by Laptitelili and Marie who actually remembered and commented on two more WIPs I "forgot"...Well, of course I was only testing to see wether you're all  paying attention!! ;) 100 points to each of you! Laptitelili asked about Eloise. Well. Eloise and I agreed to go our separate ways. Sad, but true. I had the back all knitted up and thought it was beautiful. But it dawned on me that the beauty was really not suitable for a jacket or sweater for myself. I just kept picturing this wonderfully multicolored fiber more in a pillow, a blanket or maybe a child's sweater. It just did not work for me. So this blossom yarn is back in stash and - yes I am really thinking pillows here. Or blanket. After summer.

Marie asked about the Lopi sweater. This one is absolutely a WIP - one sleeve is done and I started the body - but I'll let it rest this summer because it's a rather heavy, warm, wooly knit that probably - or hopefully! - will not be much worn this time of the year.

When I finally crawled out of bed and dragged myself over to my knitting basket there was one and only one project I had in mind. This one MI ribbluse:

I absolutely love knitting this light, crisp, wonderfully heathery wool! I love it so much that I finally brought myself to put all stitches on spare yarn and trying it on. This is the only way to find out at what point exactely I need to separate sleeves and body.

Could it be here?:

Almost. I needed to knit a few more rounds and a little more increasing and I finally put the sleeve stitches behind me and now it's all about the body. I tried it on once more and it seems to fit perfectly!!

Current status:

I seem to have "promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep"...

One year!!

One year of blogging! Fiberspace's one year anniversary is today, may 1st! Relax - I will not make a speech. I just want to say that the reason I think I will go on blogging for a while is that it enables me to interact with all you wonderful knitters and bloggers out there! And a little bit also because it helps me to get a tiny bit organized (yes, please - you can laugh..) and actually finish some things!

Speaking of. At this one-year milestone what could be more apropriate than revealing my to-get-done-fast!! list:

1. We have one Hourglass:

Which is almost 1/2 done, meaning:

Body knit to yoke and almost one sleeve done. It's sooo soft and such a great mindless knit that I think I hope I might have it done in a week or two...

2. We have this dug-out silk top from last summer:

I think I'll actually finish and wear it this summer!

3. We have a pair of socks in-progress:

For my mom. She probably comes visiting in a couple of weeks and I see no reason why I shouldn't get them done before that.

4. We have one rugrat. Or sweater. Angelica:

Which is having some crazy pooling going on around the waistline - but I really don't mind - I think it makes a somewhat cool pattern. Pool pattern. After having reknit lower body 3 - yes three times! - I now consider it practically done.

5. We have the print of the wave stole from friday's entry, scroll down.

6. We have the Marianne Isager ribbluse. Nothing has happened since I last posted a picture. The problem is that I am getting closer to the point where I devide all sts for body and sleeves - and before I do so I need to put all stitches on spare yarn and fit it on. This is what made me put it aside. But I really love it, the wool is such a wonderful lightweight so I think it will work well also for summerknitting.

7. We have the greek pullover:

formerly known as splendour. Yes, this needs some explanation, I know. I started knitting the wonderful splendour. Kim Hargreaves' design is fantastic and I really wanted to make this. But what can I say. First the gauge-monster came and ruined my attempt. I came under attack. Then the mohair-monster came and told me a secret in my ear. I din't know. I thought I loved mohair. The look of it, the lovely fluffy feel of it. Exactely. I discovered this winter that mohair and my skin are not going well together. Someone might call it allergy, I call it plain scratching. Itching, irritabillity to an extend that once and for all made me realize that I am not going to get much wear out of a mohair-collar-way-up-the-neck like the one of - yes exactely - splendour. Splendid. So hence the wide-collared greek pulli. I will resume the knitting of this after summer.

I think this is how far I will drag you into my WIPs. Are you still with me?! I am impressed! There might be a couple of things I "forgot" - but all in all - I think I covered most of my ongoing stuff. I wish I could say I am throwing a big party to celebrate this anniversary tonight - but the fact is I think I might crawl back to bed right now. I am having a really nasty spring-flu. It almost keeps me from knitting. But from blogging? Nnnnnaaaah!!

Happiness on a cone...

Two entries in one day. What is going on? The mailman just walked by. Looks like we'll have more laceknitting...

This photo does not in any way do justice to the fantastic heathery green - it is warmer and greener in reality. The shade is "highland glen" and it is 2300 fantasticly soft yards of cashmere - 150 g which gives me the possibility of trying som real cobweb knit, or I can hold 2 ore more strands together, endless possibilities...It's even prettier and softer in reality than I in my wildest dreams had imagined... oh. yes - where did I get it? - ebay - colour mart. Last week - only a couple of days after I ordered this one cone they had a supersale which made me allow myself to put in an order of - eh - some more which is now on the way...

The haze is gone...

Thank you to those who cheered me on to continue the hazy stole. Looking at the picture I like it - but. She is gone. The print of the wave pattern is - at least  for me - not easy to memorize. So stitch definition is essential here - to easily see what happened in the last row is crucial in order to be able to knit away without messing seriously up. At least for me. I messed it seriously up - and knowing there was no way I can sit deeply concentrated an knit 1,5 meters of this - she was doomed... The suri elegance will rest for now and I'll gladly listen to any tip on what to make of her...

As I seem to be absolutely obsessed about the print of the wave pattern I had to try again. (The heirloom knitting version is here - and you must look at this stunning version of that one!!) Anyway. I knew of course that I have possibly the perfect yarn for it in stash - both colorwise (aqua goodies - wave -  see where this is going...) - and weight/yardage-wise. My secret pal - the angel- gave me this to make the creatures of the reef shawl. I wanted to make it - but reading the pattern again and a again I got an increasing angst. I think this is too advanced for me at this point. I definitely want to make it later. It doesn't look that hard - but casting on more than 400 sts and dealing with all those charts and countings - I fear I will chicken out. And I do not want this heavenly jaggerspun zephyr to end up as an UFO nor do I want it defined as "stash". It has to come out - it has to bloom! So therefore we have one new beginning of the print-o - and NOW we're talking! This is stitch definition! This is shine and drape! This is perfect!!:

stitch d e f i n i t i o n !!:

I am almost - but not quite - forgetting about my other projects. More about them soon...

Hazy lacy days

I am trying to bring this (scroll down to last picture in the june 10th entry) out of stash and into something usable. Last summer I discovered that this yarn and the birch-pattern did no good to each other. I've seen so many pictures of gorgeous alpaca lace shawls, but somehow this doesn't seem to work for me. The fact is - alpaca gives a really hazy looking lace - I guess I should have known. I am trying to convince myself that this haze is the trademark of alpaca and really what makes it beautiful. But still I don't know. I want some more stitch definition here! I felt a bit better after stretching it out and getting some sort of an idea of how it will look after blocking:

It's a print-of-the-wave pattern downloadable here. And have look at this beautiful version of it! I am still biting my nails and scratching my head over this - do I have the courage to go on knitting this?? It's an enourmous amount of stitches lying ahead of me....I really love those zig-zag ladders, though...
